Beatrice "Beezus" Quimby Information
Beatrice Ann "Beezus" Quimby is a character from the Henry Huggins and Ramona series of books by Beverly Cleary. She is the friend of Henry, Mary Jane, and the older sister of Ramona and Roberta. Beezus earned her nickname from Ramona, who had a hard time saying Beatrice. Beezus' favorite aunt is Aunt Beatrice.
In some of the stories, Beezus is jealous of Ramona because she gets a lot of attention and because her art work is taped on the fridge. Beezus and Ramona is the only story that is written from Beezus' point of view. It is revealed that Beezus is the rightful owner of Picky-picky because she got him before Ramona was born. Beezus can be stubborn, and spends a lot of time looking at herself in the mirror. Beezus tries not to eat chocolate because of her acne.
In some stories, Beezus gets along with Ramona very well. Sometimes, Beezus doesn't. In Ramona's World, Beezus gets her ears pierced without her parents' permission and they let her off with a warning, and she starts to wear make up. She has a crush on Daisy Kidd's older brother Jeremy. Beezus makes her first appearance in the Henry series and continues to appear in the Ramona series. Beezus has a new baby sister named Roberta in Ramona Forever. Beezus loves reading, shown in Beezus and Ramona. Beezus makes a new friend in Ramona's World.
Film And Merchandise
In the 2010 movie Ramona and Beezus, Beezus is portrayed by teen star Selena Gomez. Joey King plays Beezus' pest of a sister Ramona Quimby. The film is live action and hit theaters July 23, 2010. The film does not focus on just one book, it goes from one book to another. The movie started filming in April 2009. Selena has made big sisters guides as well and there are also Ramona dolls now available from big companies like Madame Alexander. Instead of Beezus her real name is Beatrice.
In the 1988 Ramona TV show based on the "Ramona" books, Beezus is portrayed by Lori Chodos.
